Modern design brings in 2010 and, as always, Moroso launches into the new year with its traditional participation in the Cologne furniture fair, imm cologne, held 18-24 January. Inside the splendid Design Post building - 3000 m2 of permanent showroom space - the leading international-design companies present new advances and the latest industrially-made products.
This year, Moroso showcases Fergana, a new seating range designed by Patricia Urquiola. Fergana was launched at the last Milan Furniture Fair and its final version is now presented in Cologne. With its exceptionally comfortable, broad seats, Fergana draws inspiration from the great salons of Oriental tradition but with a new twist through the use of embroidered motifs that mix an ancient language with a pop aesthetic. Such as the embroidered Pac-Man, the main character of the first videogame, developed by Tōru Iwatani in the ‘80s, and a symbol of the start of virtual games. Fergana is also important for its eco-sustainability. Separate modules are used for its construction to facilitate recycling the various elements (wood, iron, upholstery).
A major new product for the contract range is by Gordon Guillaumier.
FreeFlow's elegant curves form a modular upholstered seating range designed principally for large spaces. Its straight and curved elements permit great flexibility in creating seating arrangements for waiting rooms, relaxation areas or dining rooms.
Another product presented at imm cologne is the Y-Chair by the For Use designers. Y-Chair is made of oil-finished solid oak; its design is simple and elegant yet creates a high visual impact. It is displayed next to the Blackstone table designed by Luca Nichetto and Massimo Gardone.
Other extremely attractive designs include Patricia Urquiola's Rift chairs ideally inspired by rift valleys; like tectonic plates, the chairs are made of several layers.
