Paddings
The ideal for upholstery are the polyurethanes of synthetic origin selected by Moroso.
Polyurethanes are of a synthetic nature and derive from a reaction between various petroleum-based components, but they are non-toxic and, above all, contain no CFCs, which are harmful to the ozone layer.
Polyurethanes are produced in different densities, in large slabs up to 60 metres long, which are cut to suitable sizes and shapes.
They have an internal honeycomb structure of open-wall cells.
They have excellent insulating characteristics and resistance to hydrolysis, and are treated against mould and bacteria that can form in damp environments. They are generally well tolerated by the human body and do not cause any form of irritation to the skin.
It is the ideal basic padding for most of Moroso´s production, in its different variants and combinations. Thanks to the slim, small, open-wall cell structure, they are particularly light and permeable to the air.
And it is exactly this transpiration and the size of the cells that give the particular characteristics, which divide polyurethanes into various categories and with different mechanical performances. Moroso selects and uses various types and densities of polyurethane, which guarantee long-lasting lift and resilience. Non-deformable polyurethane, which allows intense use and at the same time maintains its original characteristics for a long time, is used in technical seatings. Products intended for the public sector are manufactured using flame retardant foams, which have been tested and certified in conformity with international standards to guarantee adequate protection against fire.
The padding of each new product included in our production range has a precise structure, which contributes towards the ideal combination in terms of aesthetics, performance and comfort.
Thanks to the bonding procedure and combinations, our polyurethanes are a mosaic of pieces that have a precise purpose and position to offer the best performance. Because they are so light, airy and versatile, our upholstery can be subjected to the roughest of treatment and will always spring back to its original shape.
Like polyurethane foam, injection moulded foam is used for products with particular shapes, in large quantities and with the same quality characteristics.
It is a polyurethane variant and is used mainly when there are complex forms and for mass production.
Moulded foam is very adaptable: its versatility and resistance to ageing are proven by means of rigorous laboratory tests. It is safe because it is flame retardant, in conformity with current international standards.
It also enables clean, curved lines to be achieved, something which is particularly important for making Moroso designer seating.
It has extraordinary performance characteristics, which contribute towards the best possible comfort.
Moroso has selected ecologically friendly polyurethanes, which can be physically or chemically recycled or recovered as energy. Physical recycling involves reducing the volume by shredding the padding into small particles, then recompacting them with binders. Chemical recycling consists of a glycolysis reaction that breaks the polymer down into various components, from which a recyclable polyhydric alcohol is obtained.
Recovery in the form of energy makes use of the energetic content of the polymer and is achieved by means of burning in modern incinerators, which are entirely safe and environment-friendly.
They can also be reduced to small, rhomboid-shaped pieces “Rhombo-fill” and still maintain their extraordinary characteristics.
Normal care and cleaning of the polyurethane padding is simple. Just brush the various parts with a soft brush, regardless of whether they are covered in cloth or not. Use of a vacuum cleaner is not recommended as the internal polyurethanes as well as the cloth covers could deteriorate.
