Leather

Selecting the right leather covering for Moroso furniture starts a long way away. To be precise, it starts with finding the best pastures and farms, because it has been proved that even the quality of the ecosystem affects the feel and appearance of leather generally known as the right hand.
Selection is continuous and rigorous and includes the tannery, where Moroso hides are processed using the most advanced and natural methods. The tanning process uses tannins extracted from bark, wood and the leaves from a range of plants that render the hides immune to decay without modifying the structure of the leather, and avoiding excessive chemical contamination: our leathers do not contain pentachlorophenol.
Moroso offers colour in its leathers too, obtained using aniline dyes; the process takes longer, but is more satisfactory because the colour lasts longer.
Softness is also important and is achieved using special beating techniques and several hoursī rotation in special containers called tumblers. Here, at the right temperature and with the right degree of humidity, the leather gets softer and softer. The leather used for Moroso upholstered products is a semi grain leather; to achieve the right degree of softness and elasticity, it is treated with particular tumbling and beating processes. The right mix between aesthetics and quality is achieved by combining the aesthetic and mechanical characteristics: in fact, the leather is assessed by the resistance and mechanical results of the tests performed on it. The results of the test carried out exclusively in proven specialised laboratories give the values relating to:
colour fastness to water (UNI EN ISO 11642), colour fastness to artificial light
(UNI 9427), flexion fatigue (UNI 8433), tensile strength and percentage
extension (UNI ISO 3376), tear load (UNI ISO 3377), colour fastness to cycles
of to-and-from rubbing (UNI EN ISO 11640).
On leather covers there may be evident signs that are characteristic of the animalīs life (wrinkles, scars, porosity, grain differences, etc.), which should not be considered as defects, but a guarantee of the genuineness of the product.
Leather covers with these characteristics are used as much as possible in parts of the product where they are not visible.
We strongly recommend not to expose the products to direct sunlight or direct sources of high intensity lighting (lamps, spot lights, etc).
Avoid direct contact of the cover with metal or sharp items or other similar articles as they could cause irreparable scratches or abrasions.
To maintain the leather cover in good conditions for a long time, regular cleaning and maintenance can be carried out.
We recommend cleaning first, followed by a protective treatment using the cleaning set supplied upon request.
