Wood

The timber used for the structures of our upholstered products is defined during the early study stages and tested on the prototypes to make sure that the aesthetics, mechanical performance and sturdiness comply with the aesthetic, quality and performance targets that have been set.
The wood, which comes from various parts of the world, is seasoned at determined, and controlled, relative humidity values especially when used for structural joints or for the supporting structure.
The solid timber that has been suitably seasoned and assembled with structural joints where there are parts subject to major stress, provides a light and strong structure with good dimensional stability and, at the same time, offers a wide choice of wood, stains and finishes.
Solid timber (fir, beech or similar) is used for most of the structures in Moroso´s upholstered furniture, either as a monoframe or an assembly of individual components.
The parts that are mainly under stress are made from structural joints and additional metal fasteners, and with angular reinforcements, corbels or stiffening elements in solid timber. The panels between the various parts of the supporting structure are made from various wood-based materials. To make the supporting structure sturdier in some products, MDF (medium density fibreboard), plywood or other types of reinforcing material is used. Specially made hot or high frequency pressed solid plywood panels, which have been adapted to our requirements, are used for visible parts of some of our products such as Jim, Jules and products with seat-back monoframe.
The basic wood structures are particularly suitable for covering with layers of polyurethane foam having different densities and characteristics such as to optimise the comfort of the seats and at the same time obtain the required forms. The feet of most Moroso armchairs and chairs are made of solid wood, machined by automatic lathing, milling or planing and moulding.
Our wooden table tops are made of wood-based materials covered with veneers in oak, beech wood, cherry wood, etc., bonded by hot pressing and bordered with solid wood around the edges or simple wood trimmings.
Taking care of varnished wooden parts is easy: for almost all the finishes and varnishes in the catalogue, it is sufficient to use a soft, slightly damp cloth, clean the product and then dry it with a soft dry cloth to avoid scratches or abrasions. Avoid using wood cleaning products as they have not been tested on our wood and consequently are not warranted by the Company. Do not use chemical or abrasive products or wood polishes. To avoid any damage to the wooden structure, avoid contact or shocks with other parts and with the floor. Always lift the products from the floor, whenever they need to be moved.
