Moroso Opens First Store in New York

May 19, 2007:

Moroso proudly announces the opening of its flagship store and showroom in New York. A collaboration between Moroso, Moss and Maharam, the store at 146 Greene Street is in the original Moss shop.

The new 3800 sq. ft. shop has been designed by Milan-based architect and designer Patricia Urquiola. Urquiola enjoys a long working relationship with Moroso; producing her first furniture designs were produced by Moroso in 1998. This will also be Urquiola's first realized interior in the US.

The space features platforms and walls of transparent and mirrored glass to showcase the entire Moroso furniture collection as well as to be the home of Maharam at Moss, the textile company's first retail location. On the street level will be the Moroso retail store with furniture upholstered in Maharam fabrics; on the lower level its offices and contract showroom.

Moroso, Maharam and Moss have long had a close affinity both professionally and personally and all feel the synergy will help further define the address as a design destination. Moss will keep its retail operation and gallery in 150 and 152 Greene Street, and its restaurant and wine shop, Centovini, around the corner at 25 West Houston Street. Open interior passageways will connect all the design stores.

Moroso at Moss will for the first time make its full collection of seating, tables, storage and accessories available to the American public. Previously sold strictly through its showrooms and dealers, this will be Moroso's first retail outlet in the world, showcasing products created by leading international designers including Patricia Urquiola, Ron Arad, Ross Lovegrove, Marc Newson, Tord Boontje and Konstantin Grcic.

Maharam at Moss will make available its line of textiles both in cut yardage and for use on Moroso furniture. Plans are also underway to launch Maharam+, a series of accessories created by Maharam in collaboration with internationally renowned designers such as Luisa Cevese, Konstantin Grcic, Hella Jongerius and Jasper Morrison.

Moroso, founded in 1952 in Udine, Italy, is dedicated to manufacturing furnishings of the highest quality. Under the direction of Patrizia Moroso, daughter of the founder, the company continues relationships with longstanding partners like Ron Arad and Patricia Urquiola and also actively supports young designers and thinkers from around the globe. Moroso works to connect the worlds of design, arts and commerce, with the with a goal of bringing inspiration to every home.

Maharam, a fourth-generation family run business, offers a comprehensive collection of interior textiles, featuring innovative materials, iconic modernist designs, and timeless textures.

Moss, a design gallery co-owned by Murray Moss and Franklin Getchell, has been instrumental in shaping the direction of design retail, and the shop functions as arbiter, advocate, presenter, as well as gallery, showroom and salon. This famous SoHo showroom is considered a source of enlightenment about the history and culture of furniture and design.
